Night coach to Shenzhen in Oct 2026: last departures

Updated 6 October 2026

There are two real options after the last MTR, and which one you pick depends on where you are in Hong Kong. One runs to Luohu direct, the other takes the Futian checkpoint after a brief stop at the Huanggang connector.

What actually runs after the last train

The Lok Ma Chau MTR closed its last northbound train at 22:52 in early September, and Lo Wu followed at 22:30. After those, you are on road. Two coaches now run a published late schedule: the Transboundary 868 from Jordan via Kowloon Tong, and the new Coastal Overnight N3 from Causeway Bay that started in August 2026.

The 868 departs Jordan at 23:15 and 00:20, both arrivals at Luohu coach terminal. The N3 leaves Causeway Bay at 01:10 on Fridays and Saturdays only, drops at the Futian Spur Line access road. Everything else on the old night list, including the old Huanggang minibus, has been pulled.

Pickup points and how to actually find them

Jordan 868 picks up at the Austin station cross-border coach bay, ground level, signed in red. Look for the lit shelter past the taxi stand, not the upstairs long-haul bays. The N3 pickup is at the east Causeway Bay coach pier loading slot, the same place the overnight Macau services use. Both accept Octopus and AlipayHK at the gate.

Bookings open seven days ahead on the operator app. Walk-ups are fine on the 868 before 22:45, after that the night staff say it is reservation only. The N3 has been selling out for the past two weekends according to the operator.

Fare and what you pay with

868 night fare is HK$95 one way. N3 is HK$130. AlipayHK and WeChat Pay HK both work onboard the 868. The N3 driver was still cash only on the first weekend in September, though the operator says this changes on 11 October 2026 when the card reader goes live. Octopus is accepted on the 868 and will be on the N3 from that date.

From the Shenzhen side returning late, only the 868 is running the reverse direction at 02:15 from Luohu, and only on the same Fri/Sat pattern. If you miss it, your fallback is a didi to Huanggang Port, which is open 24 hours for pedestrians, and a Hong Kong taxi from there.

Border crossing time at 1am

This is the part most guides get wrong. The Spur Line gates at Futian close to pedestrians at 23:00, but the coach bay is open 24 hours with a valid ticket and ID. The 868 and N3 use the coach-only lane, which had a 12 minute average processing time at 01:30 on the 20 September overnight service. e-Channel is open to Home Return Permit holders as normal.

You still need your Home Return Permit valid. The face-scan lane at Huanggang that opened in February is not available on these coach routes yet. Stick to e-Channel or staffed counters.

When this timetable changes next

Operator sources say the night 868 gets a third departure at 01:30 from Jordan once the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line reopens its coach bay after the 18 October maintenance window. The N3 will extend to a Thursday night run from 23 October. Until then, Friday and Saturday only.

Yes, e-Channel is open through the night on the coach lane at the Spur Line, with an average 12 minute processing time on the 868 overnight service in late September.

No, the operator change in August pulled the old overnight Huanggang minibus. Use the 868 night coach or a didi to the 24 hour Huanggang pedestrian gate.
What is the fare difference between the two night coaches?
