B12 to Huanggang: the new bus from Shenzhen side
Updated 6 October 2026
There are now two cheap ways to reach Huanggang Port from the Shenzhen side in Oct 2026. One is the new B12 cross-boundary shuttle bus. The other is Metro Line 10 to the port concourse. Choice depends on where you start, what time you finish, and whether you are carrying a case.
What the B12 actually is
The B12 is a cross-boundary shuttle bus run by Shenzhen Bus Group. It started service in the new Huanggang Port area in late 2025 and the timetable was extended in summer 2026 to cover evening departures. As of Oct 2026 the route runs from a stop near Huaqiangbei in Futian to the Huanggang Port drop-off deck, a flat fare of 5 yuan, paid by Alipay, WeChat Pay or a Shenzhen Tong card.
It is a short route, around 25 minutes end to end in light traffic. The buses are standard single-deckers with a luggage rack at the back and a flat floor for one suitcase or a folded pram. There is no toilet on board. B12 is run as a scheduled shuttle rather than an express coach, so it is designed for the short hop across Futian rather than a long distance ride.
The vehicles in Oct 2026 are a mix of BYD electric single-deckers and older diesel units on the same livery, marked with a large B12 on the LED front sign and side panels. There is no conductor; the driver controls the fare scanner. Luggage is stowed at the rear rack, and standing is permitted in the central aisle during the working day. The route is classified as a cross-boundary shuttle for licensing purposes, which is why Hong Kong Octopus and paper tickets are not part of the fare system.

Stops and where to board
The B12 stops in Oct 2026 are:
Huaqiangbei (start, near Huaqiang Road metro stations), Huaqiang North, Yannan Road, Shatoujiao Interchange, Futian Port district loop, and Huanggang Port drop-off deck. Not every bus calls at every stop; the LED scroll shows the next three stops.
For most Hong Kong readers, the useful board point is the Yannan Road stop, a five minute walk from the metro Line 1 entrance at Huaxin station, and a three minute walk from the Line 7 exit at Huaqiangbei. The stop is a kerbside flag with a small shelter, two benches and a QR code linking to the live arrival board.
For travellers staying in the western Shatoujiao cluster, the Shatoujiao Interchange stop is the sensible board point. It is a covered bay on the south side of the flyover, and connects on foot to the serviced apartment blocks behind the shopping street. From there the B12 runs direct to the port deck without a change at Futian Port.
Timetable, first and last bus
B12 first bus from Huaqiangbei is 06:30. Last bus from Huaqiangbei is 22:45. Last bus from Huanggang Port back to Huaqiangbei is 23:10, which is 25 minutes later than the equivalent metro.
Buses run every 12 to 18 minutes. On Friday and Sunday evenings in Oct 2026 the queue at the Huanggang deck can run to 25 minutes, so build that into any return plan tied to the last bus. The Shenzhen Bus Group timetable PDF lists the 22:45 service as the final guaranteed departure, with two standby buses held at the Huaqiangbei terminus in case the queue overruns.
A worked example: a traveller finishing dinner in Coco Park at 21:40 in Oct 2026 can catch the 21:48 B12 from Yannan Road, reach the port deck by 22:13, clear the building by 22:50 in normal queue conditions, and be on a late cross-harbour coach from the Huanggang coach hall before 23:30. The same journey by metro requires the Line 7 to Huaxin, the Line 1 change at Huaqiangbei, and the Line 10 to Huanggang, which takes around 55 minutes in the evening peak.
How to pay on the B12
You pay 5 yuan when boarding at the front scanner. Three methods work in Oct 2026:
Alipay with the Hong Kong version linked to a Hong Kong credit card, WeChat Pay HK with a linked card, or a physical Shenzhen Tong card from a metro station. Cash in yuan is not accepted on the bus. If you are coming from Hong Kong without any of those three set up, buy a Shenzhen Tong card at the metro gate before you walk to the stop.
The Shenzhen Tong card costs 20 yuan refundable deposit at any Line 1, 2 or 7 station, and is loaded in 50 yuan units at the same kiosk. It can be used on the bus, the metro, and the ferry to Zhuhai, so it is the most flexible option for a short stay. Alipay HK scans the same QR as the mainland app, and the fare is converted at the daily rate plus a 0.5 percent handling fee that the bank adds to the statement.
B12 vs Line 10 to the port
Line 10 terminates inside the new Huanggang Port building on a separate floor above the B12 deck. The fare is 6 yuan from any Line 10 station. First train is 06:18, last train out of Huanggang to Futian is 23:35. Trains run every 5 to 7 minutes.
For a single traveller with a backpack, the metro is the cleaner choice. The B12 wins for two reasons: luggage, because the bus pulls up level with the port drop-off, and late finish, because the B12 serves the western Shatoujiao hotels where the metro does not run.
For a group of three with cabin bags, the B12 is also cheaper at 15 yuan total against 18 yuan on the metro. The trade-off is wait time at the stop, since the B12 does not run as often as Line 10. Travellers with a wheelchair should default to Line 10, which has level boarding and a designated space in every train set, whereas the B12 step is 28 centimetres from the kerb.
What to watch in Oct 2026
Two things. First, the B12 timetable on national holidays runs to a Sunday service, so first bus slips to 07:00 and last bus to 21:30. Check the LED sign at the stop the day before. Second, roadworks at the Shatoujiao overpass are scheduled to run until 18 Oct, which adds about 8 minutes to the B12 in the morning peak.
For the Oct 1 Golden Week return window, treat the B12 last bus as 21:00 and have the metro as a backup. A second item worth flagging is the port building itself: the Hong Kong side has been issuing 24 hour e-Channel passes for return trips since Sept 2026, so the B12 last bus at 21:30 on Golden Week aligns with a 22:30 building closure rather than the old 23:00 cut-off.
Practical summary
Take B12 from Yannan Road if your hotel is in Futian, you have a case, and you finish before 22:30. Take Line 10 from any Line 10 station if you want a fixed fare, a wheelchair space, or a later finish. For most Hong Kong day trippers returning late from a crossing on a weekday in Oct 2026, the B12 is the better trade.
The tie-breaker for most readers in Oct 2026 is luggage handling. A wheeled case can be rolled flat from the Yannan Road stop into the bus, and from the bus door directly to the port immigration hall without a lift. The same case on Line 10 means one set of steps at the metro gate, a change at Huaxin, a lift at Huanggang station, and a longer walk to the e-Channel. The B12 is the smoother ride for anyone carrying more than a daypack.
