Shenzhen bus from Hong Kong: the Oct 2026 timetable rundown
Updated 6 October 2026
There are around seven real bus options from Hong Kong to Shenzhen in October 2026 if you count night coaches, and the choice depends on which side of Shenzhen you are heading to, and how late you are willing to travel.
The Oct 2026 timetable changes you actually need to know
Two things happened to the Hong Kong to Shenzhen bus market in the first week of October 2026, and neither got much press. The first is that the Transport Department quietly published an updated cross-boundary coach licence list on 2 Oct, which removed a small operator that had been running a 1am Tsim Sha Tsui to Luohu service under a sister brand. The second is that the B3X from MTR Austin, which used to run every 30 minutes until around 11.30pm, now terminates at 9.30pm and the last departure has been reallocated to the B3 route that runs from the same stop but takes the Lok Ma Chau ramp instead of the Huanggang one. If you had been booking the late B3X to Huanggang, that route is now the B3 or the B7 from Hung Hom after about 8pm.
For day trippers, the practical effect is small. The peak services are unchanged. It is only the late evening and the very early morning where the choice has thinned, and that is where a licensed Shenzhen night coach is still the most reliable option. The B12 from Huanggang Port into the Shenzhen suburbs, which I wrote about earlier in October, also keeps running on the Shenzhen side, but it is a different beast and worth a separate look.
The other thing worth flagging is that Futian Port, which is where most Same Day Sam's Club runners get off, is not directly served by any Hong Kong bus. You still have to use Huanggang or one of the rail options and then take a short metro hop to the Sam's Club on Yitian Road. The bus is the right tool for Luohu, for the airport, and for any of the northern Shenzhen industrial parks where the coaches still terminate.

B3, B3X and B7: the three daytime cross-harbour workhorses
For most people reading this site, the choice is between the B3, the B3X and the B7. They look like the same bus and the livery is identical, but they go to different places and they leave from different parts of Kowloon.
The B3 runs from MTR Austin, near the Canton Road coach bays, down through Kowloon Tong and then straight to Huanggang Port. It runs from about 6am to around 11pm, and it is the cheapest cross-boundary bus at HK$45 for adults as of Oct 2026. It also has the most stops on the Kowloon side, which makes it the right bus if you are in Mong Kok or Jordan.
The B3X is the express version of the B3. It leaves from the same Austin stop, but it does not stop until it gets to the Huanggang ramp, and in the evening it used to be the last direct bus to Huanggang from Kowloon. As of 6 Oct 2026 the last B3X departs at 9.30pm, not 11.30pm as the older guides still say. After that, the B3 takes over for the Lok Ma Chau ramp. If you are heading to the Sam's Club in Longgang or Futian, you still want to get off at Huanggang, so this is the part to plan around.
The B7 is the Hung Hom option. It goes from the cross-harbour coach bay at the Hung Hom Bypass and then straight to Huanggang without going through Kowloon Tong. It is more expensive at HK$50 but the seats are the same and the journey is around ten minutes shorter because there is no city stop. If you are coming from the east side of Kowloon or from Hong Kong Island, the B7 is the cleanest option. From Central you can take the cross-harbour bus to the Hung Hom stop and be at the bay in fifteen minutes.
All three routes accept Octopus and the mainland e-CNY QR codes from the Bank of China app on the Shenzhen side, though if you pay with Octopus you still get the change given back in Hong Kong dollars at the kiosk. For a day trip where every yuan counts, it is worth pre-buying a return ticket on the Citybus app so that the Octopus top-up is not eaten by the FX spread.
Shenzhen night coach: still the only way to cross after 11pm
If you are leaving Hong Kong after 11pm, the licensed Shenzhen night coaches are still the only practical option from Kowloon. The licensed operators are Trans-Island Limousine, which runs the 1am and 2.30am Tsim Sha Tsui to Luohu service, and the China Travel Tour Coach Service, which runs a 12.30am Hung Hom to Futian Hotel service and a 2am Hung Hom to Luohu service. The fares are HK$100 to HK$150 and the buses leave from licensed cross-harbour bays only. Anything claiming to be a night coach from a Mong Kok hotel lobby in 2026 is unlicensed and you should not get on it.
The Trans-Islim service used to be the only way to get to Luohu at 1am, and the operator that ran it quietly got its licence renewed under a new name after the Oct reshuffle. The timetable did not change. The Hung Hom China Travel coach is the one to use if you are heading to the east side of Shenzhen and do not want to use a taxi from Huanggang. Both services take the Lok Ma Chau ramp after midnight, not Huanggang, so if you specifically need the Huanggang face-scan lanes you have to cross before 10pm.
There is one quirk worth knowing. The Trans-Islim 1am Tsim Sha Tsui departure pulls out from the Middle Road coach bay, not the Canton Road one. The signage at the bay is poor and a lot of riders end up at the wrong bay in the dark. Allow ten minutes to find the right one. Tickets can be bought at the bay kiosk in cash or with Octopus, and you can also book on the operator's WeChat mini-program the day before. The mini-program does not take Hong Kong credit cards, so you will need a mainland wallet or a friend on the Shenzhen side to book it for you.
The B12 to Huanggang from the Shenzhen side
The B12 is a separate thing, and it is worth a paragraph. It is a Shenzhen municipal bus that runs from the new Huanggang Port square to the Longhua and Bao'an districts, and it is the cheapest way to get from the border into the suburbs if you are on foot after crossing. The fare is two yuan, paid by e-CNY QR or by the Shenzhen Tong card. It runs from 6.30am to 10pm. It is not a Hong Kong bus and it does not run from Hong Kong at all. The reason it is on this site is that a lot of Hong Kong side trippers take it the moment they walk out of the new Huanggang Port and want to know whether it is the right bus for the Sam's Club in Longgang. The answer is no, the B12 does not stop at any Sam's Club, and the M581 from Huanggang is the one to use for Longgang. The B12 is for going to the airport direction or for the eastern Longhua industrial parks.
How the bus compares to high-speed rail in Oct 2026
The bus is still the right tool for a lot of crossings and the wrong one for others. The high-speed rail from West Kowloon has cut a lot of the bus market, but it has not killed it. For Luohu, the bus is still faster door to door because the rail terminates at Futian and you still have to take a metro. For the airport, the bus is also faster if you are coming from Kowloon because the airport coach runs every twenty minutes from the Hung Hom Bypass. For Futian, the high-speed rail wins, and the bus only really makes sense for the night coaches and for the early morning Hung Hom to Futian coach that lands at 6am.
The Oct 2026 fares are also worth a line. The high-speed rail from West Kowloon to Futian is HK$82 standard and the bus is HK$45 to HK$50. The bus is not free, but the difference adds up if you are doing this once a month. For a once a year Christmas shop the rail is the cleaner option, and for a Sam's Club run the bus plus metro is the cheaper one. The choice is yours and the timetable in the Citybus app will tell you the real time fares before you book.
Booking the bus in Oct 2026: which app and which kiosk
Two apps do the work for daytime crossings. The Citybus app sells the B3, B3X and B7 tickets, and it is the cleanest option because you can book a return and have the QR code stored on your phone. The KMB app does not sell cross-boundary tickets in 2026, even though some older guides say it does. For the night coaches, you have to use the operator's WeChat mini-program the day before, or buy at the bay in cash. The cross-harbour bays still take Octopus and the Bay cash and the Citybus app all do the same price, and there is no early-bird discount on any cross-boundary bus in 2026.
One last thing. The Oct 2026 cut also affected the Hung Hom cross-harbour bay signs, and the new signs point to the B7 first and the night coaches second. If you are looking for the 12.30am China Travel coach to Futian, it leaves from bay 4, not bay 1, and the old sign is still on the wall. The kiosk staff know the new layout and will point you in the right direction if you ask.
Quick answers
- What is the last bus from Hong Kong to Huanggang Port in Oct 2026?
- The last B3X leaves MTR Austin at 9.30pm. After that the B3 takes over and uses the Lok Ma Chau ramp, so you need to be at the bay by 9pm to make the last direct Huanggang crossing on the bus.
- Is there still a 1am bus to Shenzhen from Tsim Sha Tsui?
- Yes. The Trans-Island Limousine service at 1am and 2.30am from the Middle Road bay in Tsim Sha Tsui is still running in Oct 2026, though the operator is now branded under a new name after the licence renewal.
- Can I pay for the Hong Kong to Shenzhen bus with Octopus?
- Yes, all daytime B3, B3X and B7 buses take Octopus, but the change is given in HK dollars at the kiosk, so the FX spread eats a few percent. Pre-buying a return on the Citybus app is cheaper for a day trip.
